Selecting Keywords For Autoblogging

by emory on August 18, 2011

When users autoblog they tend to forget that google looks at your autoblogs with the same factual eyes as any other site on the net. What this means is that what helps to rank an average blog online also helps to rank an autoblog.  The big question becomes how do i get closer to what google wants from me while still automating the process.  One of the most important factors in building an autoblog is the keywords you use.

Tip #1. What Makes A Keyword Good?

Many of the autoblog tools out there either come with their own methods for pulling keywords or they don’t really offer a good solution to this issue. I myself struggled for many months using methods that left me wanting more. We need to ask our self the all important question, what does google want to see in a keyword.

Now since we are basically building and in a way SEO optimizing our posts using these keywords we want the following to be true about our keyword.

A. We want a Buying keyword – There are basically 3 phases that a searcher will go through. 1. they will first type in a broad term like “ice cream maker” 2. They will then refine their search a little “Deni Ice Cream Maker” 3. And finally once they’ve decided on the brand and model they will search one last time “Deni 5150 Ice Cream Maker”.  Where do you think it would best suit us financially to bring this buyer into our site? After they have refined their search and are in buying mode.  Think about what happens if you intercept the user in phase 1, they end up clicking one of your ebay ads and goto ebay as a non buyer, making it 50% more likely they’ll leave ebay not buying. If that happens your EPC(estimate per click) goes down and Ebay pays you less money for your clicks. On the other hand if you are using buying keywords and optimizing your posts for one product, the likelihood of bringing in traffic that ends up buying is much greater. This results in your EPC going up and you making more money off of less traffic.

B. We want long tail keywords – We don’t only want long tails but with autoblogging the reality is that the sites are usually have less authority to work with. Longer tail keywords are generally easier to rank for. Longer tail keywords also usually mean that the buyer has defined their search further and the likelihood of them being a buyer goes up as well.  Many keyword programs like keyword mage will not go beyond pulling in 3 keywords.  There is a happy medium ground here, pulling very long tails also means its a little more difficult to pull products. Therefore you should have a backup monetization method in place if you over indulge in this specific tip. You can easily replace your error templates in phpbay and phpzon for example so that you show an adsense ad or maybe a CPA offer whenever a product is unable to be pulled.

Thanks for the great post. More than often people give up auto blogging simply because they assume that it is fad or a thing of the past. Many assume that auto blogging is dead with Google Panda update. This article rightfully highlight the fact that one need to pay attention to keywords even when using auto blogging.
